Go For One Thing And Find Out  Something Else. Rbbb The Newest Diagnosis

So back in December as you recall I mentioned I was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia.

I needed to get ekg to get the clearance for repair surgery.

I guess it’s standard when your over 50 and having hbp
Well the ekg apparently didn’t look good they mentioned a poor R wave progression even asked if I had a heart attack in the past.

I fearfully replied no, not that I’m aware of.
So I had to now get a cardiologist who suggested a stress test I agreed.
I would be injected with nuclear medicine to help with the pictures
What Is an Exercise Stress Test?

The exercise stress test — also called a stress test, exercise electrocardiogram, treadmill test, graded exercise test, or stress ECG is a test used to provide information about how the heart responds to exertion. It usually involves walkingon a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike at increasing levels of difficulty, while your electrocardiogram, heart rate, and blood pressure are monitored.

There are 2 kinds

1. Dobutamine or Adenosine Stress Test: This test is used in people who are unable to exercise. A drug is given to make the heart respond as if the person were exercising. This way the doctor can still determine how the heart responds to stress, but no exercise is required.

2. I chose to walk jog on my own on the treadmill
Nuclear stress test: This test helps to determine which parts of the heart are healthy and function normally and which are not. A very small and harmless amount of radioactive substance is injected into the patient. Then the doctor uses a special camera to identify the rays emitted from the substance within the body; this produces clear pictures of the heart tissue on a monitor. These pictures are done both at rest and after exercise. Using this technique, a less than normal amount of thallium will be seen in those areas of the heart that have a decreased blood supply.

Funny they say it’s harmless yet I can’t hold a baby or child for 24 hours and I will set off the alarms at the airport

Even having Avascular Necrosis/Osteonecrosis the thought of someone speeding up my heart for me with medication freaked me out.
So I insisted that I walk, jog whatever in my own.

I will just pray my knee that has avn holds up and that this test doesn’t kill me.
So The big day arrived in mid March
Scared as hell I got ready for that stress test.
It was a glorious day and the sunrise was amazing I took it as a sign everything was going to be ok.
So I race walked my butt of at one heck of an incline.
I made it 5-6 minutes which they said was good enough

Then off to get a scan here and a scan there.
So I survived Thank God.

Got cleared for my umbilical hernia repair surgery and that was the end of March.
I was however

Diagnosed with Rbbb
A right bundle branch block (RBBB) is a heart block in the electrical conduction system. During a right bundle branch block, the right ventricle is not directly activated by impulses travelling through the right bundle branch. The left ventricle however, is still normally activated by the left bundle branch.
Your heart has a natural “pacemaker” called the sinoatrial (SA) node which sends an electrical impulse throughout your heart to cause it to beat (contract). That electrical impulse from the SA node first travels through the heart’s upper chambers (the atria). It then passes through a small group of cells called the atrioventricular (AV) node. The AV node checks the impulse and sends it along a track called the bundle of His. The bundle of His divides into a right bundle branch and a left bundle branch, which lead to your heart’s lower chambers (the ventricles).

Sometimes part of the heart’s conduction system is “blocked.” If an impulse is blocked as it travels through the bundle branches, you are said to have bundle branch block.

For the left and right ventricles to contract at the same time, an electrical impulse must travel down the right and left bundle branches at the same speed. If there is a block in one of these branches, the electrical impulse must travel to the ventricle by a different route. When this happens, the rate and rhythm of your heartbeat are not affected, but the impulse is slowed. Your ventricle will still contract, but it will take longer because of the slowed impulse. This slowed impulse causes one ventricle to contract a fraction of a second slower than the other.
Usually it’s not a big alarm unless you experience other heart issues.
So now I have to see a cardiologist regularly 2-3x a year.

And one good thing is I was told I didn’t have any unknown heart attack.

Here is a you tube video of a

Explanation of RBBB

  1. I’m sorry to hear they found something else going on, and at the same time, I’m glad they found this out, so you can be monitored. Take lots of good self-care of yourself.

  2. Sorry you have yet another medical diagnosis (I know the feeling). My sister has right bundle branch block. Do you know if that’s hereditary?

  3. You did an excellent job explaing your condition for the laymen to basically understand it. Causes of these conditions are difficult to determine. One of the most common underlying themes is high blood pressure. Detecting this prior to any other changes in heart function is a good baseline. Hopefully, a healthy lifestyle helps prevent any progressive disorders.
