For someone receiving social security disability (SSDI) benefits, every dollar received every month matters.
Disability benefits exist to help those who cannot work a regular job due to a recent or lifelong disability to provide for their daily, weekly, monthly needs – in addition to the needs of their families.
We need to go raise the minimum SSD check to 1300.00 a month. Some after working most of their life in a shit or lower paying job end up with 700-900.00 a month then take out Medicare 140.00 plus a month and they are living off barely anything.
People think the welfare office steps in to help pick up some cost or dish out food stamps. And they do some also on SSD get SSI but not everyone does. Those who are married are penalized if one spouse is working.
It is nearly impossible to increase the general percentage for benefits you are receiving, as the benefits amounts are tied directly to work history and the amount you have paid in.
And Heaven help the stay at home mom with little to no work history.
Then if you divorce after 10-15-20 years and remarry you just lost your chance at collecting your ex husband’s pension.
I wish they would start helping those on disability or SS because they were forgotten about during all the covid stimulus.
However, there are considerations for cost of living adjustments (COLA) that happen every year. While it doesn’t always increase, it is factored every year and worked through by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
Big deal……. We worked hard fir it and then get crumbs. While people on unemployment got 600.00 more a week then 300.00.
But those on a fixed income ….zippo just the regular stimulus…. Nothing extra and they live on the least every month.
